This is because several harm reduction programs (including sterile syringes and equipment, pipes and pipe-covers, fentanyl test strips, naloxone, and sexual safety products such as condoms, and lubricants) across the US had to cut back on their services, which reduced access to opioid addiction treatment (Bolinski, et al., 2022). This became common as staff started getting sick due to COVID or taking care of their ill family members.
