Body of the Essay
The arena of leadership is filled with different kinds of people that all possess various skills and qualities that can be used to rate their level of effectiveness. A person that demonstrates good leadership is one who is able to stand out in a crowd while at the same time is still capable of maintaining integrity, high morality standards as well guiding his juniors along the right path (Bojadjiev et al 2015, p. 214). The contemporary society is filled with admirable leaders whose way of spearheading issues can be emulated by others. The fact that leaders occupy top positions in the society means that they have the potential of influencing the internal environment of the firms or corporations at which they are based.
This means organizational behavior, practices and even system procedures depend a lot on the type of leadership that is demonstrated by either a manager or even company executive (Doh and Quigley 2014, p. 256). The diverse forms of leadership all have a different impact on the affairs of a company as well as on employee relations. It is essential to note that the internal environment of ay public or private organization deals with a cocktail of elements such as the organization culture, the staff members, management and even employee behavior. Leaders that practice traditional forms of ruling over their employees tend to be highly rigid and less dynamic when it comes to instructing their juniors (Glamuzina 2015, p. 89). This means that they do not believe in the potential of their workers and they view themselves as the sole custodians of critical ideas and input. It is this form of leadership that is described as being less progressive and it does not contribute any merit or benefit to a company. On the contrary, progressive or servant forms of leaderships are characterized by having a huge sense of freedom and dynamism (Muchiri and Kiambati 2015, p. 32). This means that leaders take time to consider the needs and desires of their employees and even allow them to make their own decisions on an occasional basis. Furthermore, leaders that demonstrate a servant kind of leadership are able to show their junior employees that results can still be achieved by being humble as opposed to simply imposing orders on others (Ramírez et al 2014, p. 87)
The leaders of reputable and renowned firms such as Google, Apple and even Lenovo have been quoted as people who practice servant ship such that they guide their workers by example. This means that they demonstrate the value of hard work and integrity by first possessing these virtues themselves. In fact, a leader such as Larry Page who heads the giant tech firm of Google that also doubles up as the most successful search engine has confessed to leading by example (Schein 2007, p. 64). He is able to ensure that each worker has a clear demonstration of how to execute their tasks by showing them practically how it should be done. In addition, this leader takes his time to organize trainings and workshops where employees get to increase the scope of their qualifications and competences. Leadership and Change Sample Essay
Leadership also has the ability to influence and impact on organizational cultures and behaviors since employees tend to pick up habits that they observe from inside the firm (Schein 2007, p. 64). This means that a leader who is corrupt, selfish and inconsiderate tends to cultivate the wrong kind of behavior in junior staffers since he or she demonstrates to them that the well-being of the firm is not prioritized. Similarly, a leader who is simply focused on embezzling funds from the company tends to teach employees that it is okay to steal from the firm. As a result, the behavior that is displayed by the workers of such a firm is one of dishonesty, laxity and even selfishness.
The opposite is therefore true that is a leader is candid and honest, then the employees pick up the same habits (Glamuzina 2015, p. 92). The organizational culture is often comprised of values, social networks, rituals and rites that are used to differentiate a company from another. Firms such as Samsung and Nivea are known to have an organizational culture that promotes friendliness and personal development since every employee is given the chance to give their inputs on how they can help in steering the company forward (Muchiri and Kiambati 2015, p. 34). This kind of behavior is often encouraged by the leaders who appreciate the fact that each employee has their own mindset and they can provide an innovative idea that can help in profiting the company. It is the same concept that applies when it comes to rewarding employees or enforcing motivational packages so that staff members can be able to understand the value of being industrious, visionary and focused. It is only through the platform of leadership that a company can be able to cultivate the right behavior and culture while at the same time impact positively on the internal environment.
In a recap, leadership is a virtue that is highly responsible for the level of success and growth that is experienced by a firm. Exemplary leaders have the ability to bring positive change while those that are mediocre only dent the image and reputation of their firms. Leaders who guide and mentor their subjects by example are able to provide a working environment where the behavior and culture that is demonstrated herein can remain at a high standard. It is essential that leaders take it upon themselves to adopt and embrace the right virtues that can be emulated even by the staff fraternity.
